Representation is an essential component of the publishing process. Major publishing houses deal almost exclusively with submissions from agents. As an agent, my job is to share your precious manuscript or proposal with a close, deeply personal circle of top trusted editors to make sure you are matched with the perfect in-house champion and publisher to usher your work into the world. We then negotiate the best possible deal, from contract to publication. Lastly, we guide you through all the ups and downs of the publication process from sale to shelf and forever after.
Our partnership with IGLA’s exemplary foreign rights team at Baror International as well as film and television co-agents from firms like CAA and WME provides our clients with the boutique services of a hands-on independent agency paired with the substantial resources that rival any of the world’s top agencies by way of our affiliation with of one of the longest established, and highest rated agencies in New York City and across the globe.
If you’re interested in representation, we are actively looking for engaging, voice-driven literary fiction with a strong plot (from quirky family sagas to an ensemble casts of characters) and commercial fiction that’s impossible to put down. We are also interested in nonfiction from established experts and influencers alike in the areas of lifestyle, home décor, fashion, cooking, wellness, business, memoir, politics, female-centric nonfiction, narrative nonfiction, reportage and research-driven narrative nonfiction.
Can you be more specific? Sure!
We want to represent next THE LIFE CHANGING MAGIC OF TIDYING UP and other books that transform the way we look at everyday life using a surprising perspective and voice. We love cookbooks from home cooks who connect with an audience like SMITTEN KITCHEN or simple, nourishing cookbooks like PLENTY and THE JERUSALEM COOKBOOK. We love female-driven nonfiction a la Rebecca Traister, as well as nonfiction accounts of innovative women in history, such as HIDDEN FIGURES, RADIUM GIRLS, or A WOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE. In business, we love FINDING YOUR WHY and we love books that illuminate a larger history or industry through a unique lens like SALT or FOUR FISH. We love counterintuitive big think books like QUIET: THE POWER OF INTROVERTS IN A WORLD THAT CAN’T STOP TALKING and memoirs with an adventurous twist like WILD. Essentially, we’re drawn to unique perspectives that change lives in unexpected ways.
What about fiction?
Yes! Send us your fiction. We are looking for commercial and upmarket, dysfunctional families, beachy women’s fiction like Jennifer Weiner’s BIG SUMMER and Lauren Mechling’s HOW COULD SHE, rom-coms with a twist, and domestic suspense. Think ensemble casts with an incredible voice like A VISIT FROM THE GOON SQUAD, LET THE GREAT WORLD SPIN or THE INTERESTINGS. We’re suckers for stories set in NYC and road trip novels. We love quirky families with heart like THE FAMILY FANG or funny, heartwarming family stories like THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU. We love seismic life changes that happen over one life-changing summer and offbeat voices like ELEANOR OLIPHANT IS COMPLETELY FINE. We like books about the music industry, the 60s (THE LAST OF HER KIND) and 70s (DAISY JONES AND THE SIX), and itchy voices like THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME.
